I searched the database of a filmmakers’ online community and found four relevant leads…doh!
Shooting People is an online network for filmmakers, and one of the biggest in the UK. I joined up in summer 2011, and I find it useful because it keeps me informed of a much broader world of filmmakers:
So, it occurred to me that there would be others from the North East of Scotland also members and this would be a good way of hooking up.
I tried searching geographically, but you can only drill down to ‘Scotland’ and there are lots – so no idea how many of them are in this area.
I then searched the database of posts and found four leads. Admittedly, I only searched using the word Aberdeen, but that picked up mentions of Aberdeenshire, too. There could obviously be people out there who only used words like Huntly, Stonehaven, Peterhead etc, in their Shooting People posts and so my search for ‘Aberdeen’ would not have found them.
What did I find?
The Belmont cinema in Aberdeen was mentioned quite a lot as a venue showing films.
A screenwriter living in the UK Midlands called Ron Aberdeen was featured a great deal.
And two filmmakers who were working on productions set in Aberdeenshire back in 2008. One of them didn’t come off due to finding difficulties, and the other I’m not sure.
However a Shooting People member living in the region has made contact. Welcome to him!
